Distracted Driving
The month highlights the risks posed by distractions such as texting, talking on the phone, eating, or using in-car technologies while driving. The goal is to educate the public on the importance of staying focused on the road to reduce accidents and save lives. We want to educate you on the importance of safe driving, not just for your safety but for the safety of everyone on the road. Safe driving helps reduce accidents, prevent injuries, and save lives. Remember, simple actions like wearing your seatbelt, obeying speed limits, and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles can make a huge difference.
In North Carolina, drivers obtaining their licenses for the first time on or after July 1, 2025, will face an increased inexperience period. This period will extend from three (3) to (8) eight years. This means that new drivers may encounter higher insurance premiums for a longer duration
Work zones are essential for maintaining and improving our roads—but they can also be dangerous if drivers aren’t careful. By slowing down, staying focused, and giving workers and equipment the space they need, you play a vital role in keeping everyone safe, including yourself.
Life Insurance
Reviewing your life insurance regularly is essential to ensure your coverage meets your current needs. Life circumstances, such as marriage, having children, or changes in income, can affect the amount of coverage you require. By reviewing your policy, you can make adjustments to reflect these changes, ensuring your loved ones are adequately protected. Additionally, regular reviews can help you identify any gaps in coverage, take advantage of better rates, or adjust for inflation. It’s a simple step that can provide peace of mind and financial security for the future.

Auto Insurance
We have received at the agency questions on how recent tarriffs may affect insurance rates. The tariffs on imported goods, particularly auto parts, may drive up costs to repair automobiles. These tariffs increase the price of car components like engines, brake pads, and electronic parts often made in China, Mexico, and Europe. If insurers have to pay more for repairs, they’re going to charge more in premiums to cover the increased payouts for claims.
Why the Increase?
The rising cost of repairs is largely due to the fact that many auto parts are made overseas. When import duties go up, the price of these parts also rises, which means auto repair shops have to charge more. Additionally, with fewer parts being imported, mechanics might have to use more expensive domestic alternatives or wait longer for parts to arrive. There are also higher labor costs, as mechanics may charge more for their time and expertise due to the expensive parts and delays. As a result, car owners feel the impact immediately. Any increases in premiums may not be implemented until closer to the end or the year or even next year as carriers assess their business.
Things you can do protect yourself and save money:
1. Review your policy to see if increasing your deductibles will offset increases
2. Consider adding telematics to your auto policy to view your driving habits and save money on your policy which will reward good driving behaviors.
3. Consider increasing your rental car coverage from $30/day to $50 or $75/day. The cost of rental cars may increase.

Flood Insurance
Flooding can happen anywhere, and it’s often not covered by standard homeowners insurance. Choosing the right flood insurance is crucial for protecting your home and belongings from water damage caused by heavy rain, storms, or rising waters. In states like North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, where severe weather and flooding risks are common, having flood insurance is especially important.
Here are a few key factors to consider when selecting the right coverage:
Understand Your Flood Risk
Flood risk varies by location. Areas in NC, SC, and GA may be prone to hurricanes, tropical storms, or heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding. Check your area’s flood zone and consider purchasing flood insurance if you live in a high-risk zone. Even those in low-risk areas should consider coverage, as floods can occur anywhere.
Coverage Options
Flood insurance typically covers both building and contents. Make sure to assess your needs—do you need coverage for just your home, or do you also need protection for valuables, electronics, or furniture?
Know the Limits
Flood insurance policies come with coverage limits. Ensure your policy provides enough coverage to rebuild your home and replace personal items in the event of a flood.
Compare Policies
Different insurers may offer varying levels of coverage, deductibles, and premiums. It’s important to compare policies to find the one that fits your needs and budget, especially considering the increased flood risk in NC, SC, and GA.
Understand Waiting Periods
Flood insurance typically has a 30-day waiting period before it goes into effect, so don’t wait until a storm is approaching to buy coverage.
Investing in the right flood insurance helps safeguard your property against one of the most devastating and unpredictable natural disasters. For homeowners in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, the risk of flooding is ever-present, especially during hurricane season.
